About Lasagna

The word lasagna is believed to have originated from the Greek word lasanon for chamber pot! The Romans then used lasanum to refer to a cooking pot, and lasagne was later used to refer to the dish cooked in such a pot.

A lasagna recipe featured in the first ever English cookbook, which lead some to believe that the recipe originally came from the United Kingdom. However the Roman use of the word lasanum supports the Italians' claim to having originated the dish with flat sheets of pasta layered with minced meat and tomatoes then topped with grated cheese.
